Our Shared Concern

Over the past decade, our town has come under increasing developmental pressures resulting in appreciable degradation of significant natural habitats, both wetlands and woodlands. Decisions are now being made with respect to a mid-peninsula corridor, a Motor Sports Speedway, the development of Bay Beach, population growth, all changes that can have tremendous impact on the environmental quality of this town, jeopardizing both human welfare and biodiversity.

We believe we are at a critical ethical juncture in that we now understand our decisions can have profound effects both locally and globally. Fulfilling our responsibility for stewardship of the diversity of life placed within our care, here in our community, will not only help us secure a verdant, prosperous and healthy future for ourselves, it is our obligation to those with whom we share our planet.

To explore this topic our Club will be hosting a series of discussions, beginning with our regular September 21st, 2009 program, at which we will examine how human activities have put many aquatic species at risk of extinction in Niagara. Please check our website regularly for additional ways in which you can participate in a community dialogue on this important topic.
